Our Story

A Family’s Journey to Bring Joyful Movement to Fitness Friends Everywhere

From a garage studio to workouts filmed around the world — built on love, resilience, and you.

The Beginning

Hi, we’re Jenny and Tyler Ford, the husband-and-wife team behind Freedom.fit.

Twenty years ago, we returned from England (where Tyler finished his degree at the London Film School) with our three young boys in tow. Life was tough — we were broke and moved in with family while trying to break into the film industry.

One day, Tyler found a broken player piano online and brought it home for the boys. When he took it apart to fix it, he discovered a roll of silver dollars hidden inside. That unexpected gift funded our very first in-studio step aerobics workout — Tyler produced, filmed, and edited it himself.

This was the tail end of the DVD era and the dawn of YouTube. We filmed a few more workouts, and Tyler bravely posted them for free on a new channel. To our surprise, they took off — steppers loved them, and the channel began to grow.

Building Our Foundation

Tyler built me a simple white studio in our garage, and we poured our hearts into creating more workouts. Recognition came slowly, but steadily — and then we welcomed our fourth son.

A few years later, we packed our minivan for a cross-country USA road trip. That’s when Tyler had a lightbulb moment: Why not film workouts in iconic spots along the way? Over three weeks, we filmed in stunning locations (and nearly got arrested at Mt. Rushmore!). The response when we released those outdoor workouts was overwhelming — our community fell in love with “traveling” while moving. This sparked the idea for Walk and Step Across America.

Through the Storms

Life threw challenges our way. My health took a frightening turn — doctors were stumped, and I could barely get out of bed to care for all our boys. With time, persistence, and care from holistic doctors, we discovered it was an autoimmune flare and Epstein-Barr reactivation. Gentle movement and self-compassion helped me rebuild my strength. Then Covid paused the world, and our family faced unimaginable grief when our oldest son died by suicide at the beginning of 2021. The pain was devastating. Yet through it all, this community — you — kept us going. Your messages, your consistency, your kindness carried us. In January 2021, we released the first 100 workouts of Walk and Step Across America in his memory.

Our Mission Today

That resilience turned into purpose: to keep filming real workouts in real, breathtaking places around the world — so you can escape, move joyfully, and feel strong from the comfort of home.

We’ve now completed Walk and Step programs in Canada, the UK, Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand — with many more dream destinations ahead (Japan’s cherry blossoms and Germany are calling for 2026!).

Thank You for Being Our Family

We’re a small husband-and-wife team, but our hearts are huge — and they’re filled with gratitude for every one of you. Many of you have been with us from the very beginning, over 15 years ago. We never take that for granted.

The fact that you show up — on good days and hard ones — is the real success story.

We’re the real deal: real locations, real care, and really here for you every step of the way.

Thank you for letting us be part of your journey. It’s a joy and honor to move together.
